'You
taught me all I needed to know to pass first time so thank you!'
The
Theory Test
This is the
first part of the driving test that must be completed. You will not be
able to book a practical test until you have passed the Theory Test.
All our pupils
have free access to a online theory test website which provides practice
for both the questions and hazard perception parts of the test. Just ask
your instructor for the code required to access the site, and then follow
the link at the bottom of this page to get practicing!
The theory
test is split into two parts, the theory questions and the hazard perception.
You must achieve a pass mark in both sections to be successful. A fail
grade in either section will result in an overall fail and you will have
to retake both parts again.
Theory
Questions
This part
of the test is a computer based test. You will be given 57 minutes to
answer 50 multiple choice questions. In order to pass this section you
must score 43 or higher so it is quite tough.
The questions
will cover subjects such as traffic signs and regulations, safety and
environmental issues, vehicle handling and maintenance, drivers attitudes,
and the effects of alcohol, drugs and tiredness on a drivers behaviour
and abilities.
You will
have plenty of time to complete the questions so take your time, make
sure you read the questions thoroughly, and once you have been through
them all, go back and review your answers to make sure you have not made
any mistakes.
Hazard
perception
The Hazard
Perception test is also computer based. You will be shown fourteen short
clips, taken from a moving vehicle. Each clip will contain at least one
main hazard that requires the vehicle to slow down or change direction,
as well as numerous lesser potential hazards. When you identify a hazard
on screen you will need to click the mouse to register that you have seen
the hazard. The timing of your clicks on the main hazard will be scored.
Beware that you must click for each hazard identified though. Although
only the main one is scored, you wont be able to identify which is the
scorable hazard until it is too late. You will only be shown each clip
once so there is no going back if you miss the main hazard!
To pass this
section of the test, you will need to score at least 44 out of a possible
75 points available.
For further
information on the theory test, speak to your instructor who will be able
to answer any questions you may have and advise you on the study materials
that will suit your preferred way of learning
